Create and set leadership views
This guide walks you through setting up read-only access for leaders to view team objectives, feedback and reviews across departments, roles and locations.
Leadership views are a powerful way to give senior leaders and practice heads strategic visibility into their teams' performance without overwhelming them with system administration tasks. In this guide, you'll learn how to create customised views that show exactly the right scope of people and information, assign those views to the right leaders, and update them as your firm's structure evolves. \
What are leadership views?
Leadership views provide read-only access to a specific scope of users across Performance Leader. They're designed for heads of department, practice group leads, or anyone who needs visibility into their team's objectives, feedback, and reviews without needing full administrative access.
Key features include:
- Scope by department, role, location, or custom fields
- Control which modules are visible (objectives only, feedback and reviews, etc.)
- Organisation by reporting or reviewing relationships
- Individual and team-level summaries
If you have AI enabled, leadership views can generate AI-powered summaries of team performance and individual engagement, helping leaders quickly identify trends and areas for support.
Creating a new leadership view template
Leadership view templates define what information leaders can see and which users fall within their scope. Once created, you can assign these templates to multiple users.
To create a new template:
- As a super admin, scroll down the left sidebar and select the option to set up leadership views
- Click Create new template below the dashboard
- Give your template a clear, descriptive name (e.g., "Senior Associates Objectives" or "Commercial Department Full View")
- Select which modules you want to include in this view:
- Objectives
- Feedback
- Reviews
- Or any combination
- Click to create the template
The template is now ready to assign to users. At this stage, no users are assigned yet.
Assigning users to a leadership view
Once your template is created, you need to assign specific users and define their scope of access.
To assign a user:
- From the leadership views dashboard, locate your template and click to assign a user
- Select the user you want to grant this view to
- Set the department scope:
- Keep it at "all departments" for firm-wide visibility
- Or select specific departments to limit the view
- Set the role scope (optional):
- Select one or multiple roles by holding Ctrl (Windows) or Command (Mac)
- This lets you show only specific role profiles, such as "Partners" or "Associates"
- Set location scope (optional) if you want to filter by office or region
- Set custom field scope (optional):
- If your firm uses custom fields (like sector or practice area), you can filter the view further
- The system will show available attributes you can select
- Click Assign user to confirm
The dashboard will now show that one user is assigned to this view, along with the scope you've set.
Editing an existing assignment or template
You can update the scope of any leadership view assignment at any time without recreating the template.
To edit an assignment:
- Navigate to the leadership views dashboard
- Find the template and user assignment you want to change
- Click Edit assignment
- Adjust the department, role, location, or custom field scope as needed
- Click Update to save your changes
What the user sees
Once assigned, the leadership view appears automatically in the user's Performance Leader menu, under the name you gave the template.
They will see:
- The name of the leadership view at the top of the page
- A summary of the scope: departments, role profiles, locations, and the number of people in it
- Tabs for Overview, Teams and People, plus a tab for each module you enabled
- A date range control, so they can widen or narrow the period being reported on
If People Reviews is among the enabled modules, they also get a Reviews tab listing every review for the people in their scope โ the status of each one, which step it has reached, and how much contributor feedback has come back. They can filter that list by status, review type, department, position and location, and export it to Excel.
The export is more detailed than the screen: it adds email address, supervisor and secondary supervisor, the named step each review has reached, and the number of contributors still outstanding. For anyone running a review cycle, that is the compliance picture in one file.
If AI is enabled, leaders will also see options to generate AI-powered summaries at both the team and individual level, making it easier to spot trends and prepare for conversations.
Important notes
- Users can only have one leadership view at a time, but they can also have a restricted admin role with a different scope
- Leadership views are read-only โ users can see, sort, filter and export what is in scope, but cannot edit data, change a review or send reminders. Grant restricted admin access only when someone genuinely needs to act on what they see; with review status, contributor progress and export now available in the view itself, many leaders no longer need it
- Keep template names concise โ long names may not display well in the interface
- You can edit or disable templates from the dashboard at any time
Best practices
- Start with practice group heads or department leads who need visibility into their direct teams
- Use role-based scoping to give leaders focused views (e.g., all partners, all trainees)
- Review and update assignments quarterly to reflect organisational changes
- Consider creating separate views for different purposes (e.g., one for objectives alignment, another for review engagement)
- Enable People Reviews for anyone who needs to track cycle progress or chase contributor feedback โ it is often the difference between a leader needing restricted admin and not
